G.C. Rosenquist
Old Man
I see you in the morning, rain and shine
You see me through eyes that deny their age
With spider-leg fingers, paper-skin wrapped
Brown leaf bones and a weathered, velvet head
You're much stronger than I am
Movement is no longer like stream water
Any clear thoughts are few between labored breaths
But all the world's knowledge is what you keep
A magic garden to pick from today
Is wasted on tomorrows
Only a flame inside keeps you alive
A marriage of soul and strength passing time
Until the moment of divorce, then peace
And you will hear angel wings forever
Don't wait for me old, old man
